Toyota - Corolla Hatchback/Touring Sports Price: from £30,225

Last Updated On: 07/07/2023

The world-famous Corolla name returned to the UK with the launch of the 12th generation Hatchback, Saloon and Touring Sports models, which replaced the Auris range. The Saloon is currently built in Turkey.

The latest Corolla, a development of the current 12th generation range, is faithful to this spirit of innovation and Toyota’s commitment to building ever-better cars. Its status as one of Europe’s best-sellers in the C-segment for compact/mid-size models is strengthened with the introduction of Toyota's fifth generation hybrid electric technology – 1.8 and 2.0-litre electrified powertrains that offer more power and a more rewarding drive, yet with improved efficiency.

Both the new Hatchback and Touring Sports are the first Corolla models to be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform, bringing multiple benefits in terms of strong dynamic performance thanks to a lower centre of gravity, balanced chassis and a highly rigid body. It also contributes to increased safety and greater design freedom that’s witnessed in distinctly different styling for the Hatchback and Touring Sports versions.

Total power from the 1.8-litre system is 138bhp, giving a 0-62mph (100km/h) time to 9.1 seconds. For the 2.0-litre system, total output has risen to 193bhp which gives a very creditable 0-62mph (100km/h) time of just 7.4 seconds. CO2 emissions are from 100g/km for the 1.8-litre system and 98g/km for the 2.0-litre with fuel economy from 64.2mpg (all figures WLTP combined cycle, Icon Hatchback with 16-inch wheels). The 1.8 engine is built at Toyota's Deeside plant in North Wales.

The new Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports share the same equipment grade structure, with Icon, Design, GR Sport and Excel trim levels. Likewise, the two body styles offer the same combinations of grades and powertrains.

Corolla is the latest model to benefit from the influence of Gazoo Racing, Toyota’s global championship-winning motorsport arm, with the introduction of new GR Sport models, available with both the Hatchback and Touring Sports. These feature design and specification details that give the car a wider, more planted and powerful look and a sportier cabin ambience. (see image 8)

Both models are equipped as standard with the latest Toyota Smart Connect+ multimedia system, with faster response and greater functionality, plus a fully digital, customisable 12.3-inch combimeter in the driver’s instrument binnacle.

There are also major advances in the Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems, with new and enhanced features that recognise and help the driver avoid a wider range of everyday driving hazards. Safety and multimedia functions are future-proofed, with software updates deliverable over-the-air via the car’s data communications module.

For 2023 all models benefit from refreshed exterior and interior styling details, including new wheel designs, headlights, colour options and upholsteries.
